Updating my lab to vSphere 6.5 – part 2

Home / Home-Lab / Updating my lab to vSphere 6.5 – part 2

In the previous post we discuss the upgrade process for the vCenter appliance, in this post we will continue to update the lab to vsphere6.5 by upgrading the hosts.

This process can be fully automated via VUM but i will like to take the manual route.

Step 1:

The first step is to upload the host image to a datastore that the hosts have access to and then connect the iso as a CD to the host

Step 2:

boot from a the CD and choose the installer from the menu, if you do not get the installer screen, check your bios setting (you might need to change the boot order)

Step 3: Click enter to start the installation

Step 4: accept the license agreement

Step 5 : choose the disk to install (i am keeping it in the same location)

Step 6: Choose upgrade and preserve the VMFS datastore

Step 7: Click F11 to start the upgrade

Step 8: Click enter for reboot and remove the CD from the host settings

Step 9: repeat the process for the other hosts in your environment and verify the current version

Step 10: You might need to reconnect the hosts (in my lab I did)
