VCAP-DCV Deploy Objective 1.2 – part 2

In this post we will continue to discuss VMware core management infrastructure components.

here are the objectives from the blueprint:

    • Deploy and Configure Identity Sources for Single Sign-On:
      • Configure Single Sign-On users and groups
      • Change Default domain for Single Sign-On
      • List services registered with Single Sign-on
      • Deploy and configure vCenter Server
      • Deploy / Configure Enhanced Link Mode

Lab Setup:

Using VMware workstation:

  • Microsoft Servers 2012R2 for Services (DNS , DHCP, etc…)
  • Microsoft Servers 2012R2 as external PSC
  • Microsoft Servers 2012R2 as vCenter Server

 Documents used:

  • VMware vSphere Installation and Setup

Deploy and Configure Identity Sources for Single Sign-On:

To add vCenter to an active directory please look at my previous post :

Joining vCenter to my active directory lab

Configure Single Sign-On users and groups:

For this objective lets create a mini lab:

  • Create user X in vsphere.local domain
  • Make user X a member of administrator group in vsphere.local domain

To add a user to vsphere.local from vCenter >> Administration >> SSO >> Users and Group >> under vsphere.local domain >> click on the (+) sign and add the user

Once you added the user now you can add the user to the administrators group

click on the group tab and add the user to the administrator groups

Change Default domain for Single Sign-On:

lets continue with our mini lab and make user X (in my case i used my name as a user) and make the vsphere.local as a default domain

Take a look at the current default domain : under administration >> SSO >> configuration

Click on vsphere.local domain and then click on the “set a default domain icon”

Now login with the user and do NOT use @vsphere.local after the user name

List services registered with Single Sign-on:

Need to find more information , didn’t find any reference in VMware documentation or KB.

help needed 🙂

Deploy and configure vCenter Server:

we discussed this in more detail in the previous post and we should know this by now 🙂

Deploy / Configure Enhanced Link Mode:

Enhanced linked mode connect multiple vCenters by using one or more PSC. Enhanced Link mode let you view and search across all linked vCenters

Great VMware KB article that shows all supported and unsupported vCenter/PSC deployments :  https://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=2108548
